Here’s another instant favorite: Akkerman #13 Simplisties Violet. (Which I misspelled multiple times when swatching, oops)

This is closer to what I think of when “purple” comes to mind. More grape-ish and trending toward indigo. Yama-budo is hard to beat, but that’s more magenta. Both great in different ways.

The gold sheen on this is subtle, clinging mostly to the outlines of letters. It looks especially nice on Iroful.

Scans

The swatch card scans don’t show the sheen, but they do show subtle differences in color on different paper.

MD leans a bit more toward magenta, Iroful is more even, saturated, and darker than Iroful.

Microscope

The microscope photos show the sheen around the edges on every paper type, but they are most clearly defined on Iroful

Photo of ink writing on col-o-ring paper under magnification. The ink is purple, with one small area that is lighter and a couple places inside that are darker on paper fibers. The edges of the line are very rough. There are visible flakes of gold sheen around the edges, but it is spotty and not consistent. Photo of ink writing on Iroful paper under magnification. The ink is purple, with a couple places inside that are lighter on paper fibers. The edges of the lines are extremely smooth. There is a distinct visible near constant outline of gold sheen around the edges of the lines. Photo of ink writing on Midori paper under magnification. The ink is purple, with one small area that is lighter. The edges of the line are somewhat rough. There is a slight halo of gold sheen around the lines.

The color differences between the papers show again, and once again Iroful looks the best to me.

Chromatography

Had a little inkcident with the Chromatography strip but thankfully only on the name and not the important part.

Chromatography strip showing dark purple, blue/purple, and a clear area with a gold line

It separates out into purple, more of a blurple, and there is a faint gold or brown line past the end.

Group Photo

This photo is a little blurry, but shows off the gold sheen in the large swatch areas.

Photo of 3 ink swatches & chromatography strip for Akkerman #13 Simplisties Violet which is a "grape" purple colored ink with gold sheen. Each swatch contains the ink name followed by "XX" 2 curlicues in both stub and EF widths. Swatch 1: Iroful swatch card with an outline of a paint palette and tube. The palette is mostly filled in with swirls of ink, one area is darker and surrounded by a gold halo, two areas are even darker and outlined in thick shiny gold. There is an outline of a paint tube which is swabbed and looks like the darkest areas, with thick gold around the edges. The writing is even and dark. Swatch 2: Col-o-ring swatch card with a stamped outline of an ink bottle. The outlined area is mostly full of an ink blob which is darker in the lower right and that darker area has a slight gold sheen around it. Swab across "cap" is similar but without visible sheen. The writing sample is slightly lighter than Iroful. Swatch 3: Midori MD swatch card with a stamped outline of an ink bottle. The outlined area is mostly full of an ink blob which is darker in the lower right and that darker area has a visible gold sheen around it. Swab across "cap" is similar, but without visible sheen. Text is even and dark. Chromatography starts a more magenta purple, then changes to more of an indigo purple/blue before fading out.
