Pilot Blue is a standard blue ink with a little shading and some red sheen.
Scans
The shading on Iroful and MD is there but doesn’t have a lot of contrast between areas of low and high ink coverage.
Photos
There is a lot of red sheen in all of the large swatches, but it’s not heavy.
The sheen leaves a red outline around the letters on all papers, which gives it a nice outline.
Microscope
As with the photos it’s easy to see the sheen outlining the writing.
The blue looks a lot more deep and even on Iroful as well.
Chromatography
It starts dark slate blue, fades out with some gray, then a large empty area, and then a narrow cyan band around the leading edge.
There is a thin blue glow past the leading edge, but nothing on the swatches.
Verdict
I have used this a couple times and it’s decent but a fairly reliable standard middle-of-the-road blue. It’s not fancy, but it gets the job done.
