This Pilot Custom 74 is great so far. Writes smoothly, consistent flow, good weight/balance, and the EF is very thin, close to Kakuno EF & 3776 UEF, which is ideal.

I wish they had more nib choices in this style, though. I'd like a music/stub nib, but I'm not fond of the 912.

And Diamine Red Dragon is a nice dark red. I didn't have anything too close. It's much lighter than Writer's Blood and darker than Wild Strawberry.

Photo of a fountain pen being held up by a mechanical suit made of Lego bricks. The fountain pen is a Pilot Custom 74 with a clear body and silver trim. It has rounded ends and a thin body. The Lego set holding up the pen is the "Space Construction Mech" #60428. It is a humanoid-shaped mech with a minifigure as the pilot. The pilot is wearing a yellow uniform and helmet, and is sitting with a "cage" over its head. One arm of the mech has pincers holding onto the pen. The other arm has a battering ram supporting the other end of the pen.
Photo of a fountain pen nib and writing sample on a pad of paper. There is text engraved on the nib "Pilot 14k-585 5 <EF> P1118" There is an engraved outline around the nib with some vaguely S-shaped curlicue type designs inside the outer line. The writing sample is in dark red ink and reads "Pilot Custom 74"
