Diamine Red Dragon is a dark red ink with some shading and an interesting dull coppery sheen. It’s not so dark it looks black, it’s always unmistakably red, but it’s a deep, rich red.
Scans
As with many other inks, it’s darker on col-o-ring. The swatch is lighter on Iroful than MD, but the writing is similar. However, where the ink is lighter due to shading it’s lighter on Iroful.
Photos
The sheen on this one is puzzling. Sometimes it looks a little shiny, but not like other sheening. It’s more like coppery discoloration than shiny sheen, but it’s definitely there in the swatches at least.
Microscope
The sheen is a little more “sheeny” under the microscope, but not always. It’s sort of there around the edges of letters but mostly in the large swatches.
Chromatography
It starts magenta, then gets darker, then ligher, and darker again. Then there is a little area of yellow followed by a dark red line at the edge.
The magenta areas glow very slightly but the yellow area and the leading edge glow quite brightly.
UV Check
The writing doesn’t glow, but the large swatch area has a dull glow. It’s not much, but it is noticeable.
Verdict
This is another favorite of mine. I always have this in a pen! It’s a bit darker than the red inks I usually prefer, but it looks great.
