A Study in Scarlet is from Wearingeul’s Arthur Conan Doyle series of inks. It’s a dark-ish shade of red with a hint of orange. It has a some shading, and no sheen. It also can take a bit more time to dry, though I didn’t do any exact measurements.
Scans
The shading is most noticeable on Iroful, and a little bit on MD. I didn’t see any at all on col-o-ring.
Photos
The large swatches don’t have any sheen but areas of heavy ink look sticky/tacky, and they were for a while. The large swatch on MD took between 48 and 60 hours to dry completely.
Microscope
The main notable thing about these is that especially on Iroful some parts of the lines and swatch look “frosted”. It’s not exactly sheen, but there is something there, even if it isn’t shiny.
The large swatch area on MD also looked a bit “crusty” and had some crystallization happen. Maybe I slathered on way too much ink there when swatching?
Chromatography
The chromatography starts pale magenta and then gets darker, then an area of bright yellow and then darker red.
The yellow and the leading edge of red glow brightly, but it didn’t result in any noticeable effect on the swatch.
Verdict
While it’s not identical, it has a strong resemblance to Diamine Red Dragon and Wearingeul Captain Hook.
Though it’s not unique, I like this shade of red. The potential for drying issues will probably prevent me from using it as frequently as Red Dragon.
